The article I chose to look into and has personally really intrigued me the most was Matthew A. Cherry’s new 12-episode season of “Young Love” being greenlit on HBO Max, an American streaming platform.

The reason to why this article interested me was the whole theme of the show: animation itself is stereotyped to be quite wild and exciting, experimenting with different ideas which are beyond people’s imagination. However, “Young Love” is an animation which brings us back to reality and shows us through animation what issues people have and how they are affected by them.

The show’s storyline features a young, Black millennial family juggling through many different issues between them. From the words of Matthew A. Cherry himself, he mentions in the interview that this animated show wanted to explore problems including “job careers, marriage, parenthood, social issues and multi-generational dynamics”.

I believe that featuring themes like this is vital within the field of animation because through entertainment it shows incredibly important and serious issues to a wide audience and considering how Black people have been represented this year especially I believe that an animation showing how their everyday life is whilst balancing the numerous issues they have will be highly affective and may give someone a better understanding towards them.
