The pre-production stage is one of the most important stages in animation as it's the stage which fully develops the story and the characters that are in them. I've been inspired by this video of the stages of Nickelodeon's pre-production and I wanted to just go over how they approach it:
The first thing they show is how they have three different separate paths after the final script and how although they are different to one another they are all incredibly useful.
She then goes into detail on how the design team would approach the task and she said that they'd start with a pre-design to help get a better imagination of the story. The design theme then feedback to the storyboard artists with their pre-designs so that they have an idea on what the scenes will look like. The storyboard artists will also do roughs so that the people in casting know what dialogue and sounds they'll need to include in their scene.
One all three stages met their quota they would then compile an animatic so everyone can get a good idea on what the final piece would look like. The teamwork in animation plays a huge role as everyone is constantly working with one another.
